Rescuers at work
Brugal has been swift to provide help for survivors of the massive earthquake in Haiti, which has left 1.5 million people homeless in the poorest country in the western hemisphere.
The Brugal Foundation has already made a donation of one million pesos (about £16,000). The money is going to local aid charities for the provision of food, medical and emergency supplies.
Brugal, which has been a part of TEG for the last 24 months and is a next-door neighbour of Haiti on the island of Hispaniola, is keeping a close eye on the situation with a view to providing further financial support for a second wave of supplies.
The company was one of the first to offer aid to the victims and Franklin Báez Brugal, executive president, said: "The terrible tragedy in Haiti has touched the hearts of many nations around the world and we wanted to help in some small way as our neighbours are quite literally struggling to survive. We agreed very quickly to make a "special donation" from the Fondacion Brugal, funded by an extra donation from the company, to help with the relief efforts in Haiti. We were also able to identify a number of reputable organisations in the Dominican Republic who can help channel this money to ensure it is used immediately for the benefit of those in need in Haiti. Thankfully, none of our employees or their families have been directly affected by the earthquake."
