Environmental policy

The Edrington Group, as Scotland’s leading independent Scotch Whisky company, is committed to the prevention of pollution and to the minimisation of the impact of its operations on the environment. We regard the conservation of energy, raw materials and water and the minimisation of waste to be a high priority in our business.

The Environmental Management System at the Group’s Great Western Road site covers all of the activities at that site including; the design and management of Scotch whisky and other spirits; in particular the following activities: the development of new products, the receipt, blending, bottling, packaging, packaging design of Scotch whisky and other spirits and the warehousing and despatch of cased goods.

At the Group’s distillery and warehouse sites, the Environmental Management System covers the manufacture of Scotch Whisky and co-products and the provision of laboratory and engineering services associated with the malting, distilling and warehousing processes.

The Environmental Management Systems are subject to a process of continual improvement which is monitored and reviewed by the Group Operations Executive. This is chaired by the Group Operations Director who in turn sits on the Group Board.

Through employee co-operation and efficient management procedures, the Group undertakes to achieve the following environmental aims:

  • To encourage sound environmental practices throughout the organisation.

  • To promote environmental awareness, understanding and responsibility amongst our employees, suppliers and customers and communicate our Environmental Policy publicly.
  • To include environmental criteria in the selection and review of key suppliers.
  • To minimise any significant adverse environmental impact of our existing processes and activities and to ensure that the implications of new processes are fully assessed prior to their introduction.
  • To set environmental performance objectives and targets and to incorporate evaluation procedures and associated indicators into our management system.
